3/5 RAILROAD AVE 3RD ALARM (LIBERTY PARK)
At 10:17 AM, FDLC Firefighters Platoon 2, Division 3 were dispatched to the "Dollar Barn" on Railroad Ave in Liberty Park for a working structure fire. Engine 54 arrived on scene first and found heavy fire on the first and third floors of the three story brick building. Battalion 14 arrived and updated Division Chief 3. A second alarm was requested immediately to the scene due to the advanced state of the fire and the exposure problems. As firefighters attempted to douse the flames in the first floor shop, flames made its way into the cockloft of the building and quickly caused a partial roof collapse. Firefighters would be able to darken the flames on the first floor, but an interior attack would not be possible due to the intense heat and flames still in the structure. A third alarm would be requested to the scene and multiple master streams would be needed to douse the flames. It would take firefighters over 4 hours to completely extinguish this blaze. The cause of the fire would be a lithium battery scooter in the dollar store that was on charge. Thankfully no residents of the apartments above were injured.
